Kelly submitted this photo with no comment but, to be honest, I would have appreciated a comment because there are a few things that I feel need explanation, such as: the shoes, the face paint, the excessive sunshine and the willingness to expose her thigh to potential sunburn. My current thought is that she’s going for a William Wallace a la Braveheart inspired look with a horizontal version of the war-paint and tartan dress situation. It’s entirely possible that old Will wore suspenders and cork wedges under his kilt so this could be an entirely authentic costume (you never know what some dudes have under their kilts - I’m part Scottish so I should know).
She’s a decent height in the tree and she’s squinting due to the sun rather than smiling. I think she’s definitely goth-compatible if not a goth-in-costume. I doubt her commitment to goth footwear and pale skin with that blatant thigh exposure, so points deducted there.

This goth looks as if he’s trying to conquer this tree with the power of Stern Looks™ and Foot Resting™. I love me a stern metal pose and this one has the added bonus of a nonsensical foot-on-tree placement. It looks a little bit like he’s about to defy gravity and walk up the tree, keeping his arms crossed, Lionel Ritchie - Dancing on the Ceiling style.
Yes, yes, technically this goth is not ‘up’ the tree. His foot is up it, though, and I love this photo so much that I feel I have to post it for the sake of metal poses, stern looks and trees everywhere. He’s not smiling and he’s in a gloomy looking forest. He has the goth/metal skillz. Bonus points for hair. Points deducted for lack of tree height.

Someone calling themselves Ryan Bauhaus sent this in (and about 10 others from this photoshoot - dedication!). Now, I think it’s pretty obvious to most of us that this is someone’s one-off Goth attempt. You don’t see that kind of make-up on any self respecting Goth unless it’s 4am and you’ve been at a Goth club on a very hot night. But, you know what? I’m giving this guy points for effort. He’s pulling more of a black metal face and pose than Goth. I know some people don’t know the difference but now is your time to learn. Goth <> Black metal but there are similarities. Look it up.
He doesn’t exactly have corpse paint on but the consistency of the make up is more like paint. The draping of the panne velvet over the branch is a nice nod to the past post on my hatred of panne velvet. The pointy boots are great but, um, leggings? LEGGINGS ARE NOT PANTS. Goths don’t wear leggings. Are they thermals? Am I missing something? I feel like I’m missing something here. Anyway, ah, good attempt. Nice pentagrams. Interesting use of the single skeleton glove. It’s daytime but he’s grimacing.
